I have wanted to read Three Cups of Tea (I cannot remember the author)and finish What the Body Remembers. Diane's suggestion is also good. Along those same lines, it may be nice to read a book that is set in a country outside the United States just to have more of an international perspective.
I'm a journalist from California who gave up the newspaper business for the more adaptable lifestyle of a freelance writer. I write periodically for The Nervous Breakdown and local magazines. When it comes to books, my secret pleasure is travel essays, but I can read just about anything. I started this book review blog to share my opinion about the books I read and to help other readers see what the inside cover should have told them before they paid $25 for a book.
In 2008 I planned to read at least one book a week, or 52 books by the end of the year. Below you'll find the list of what I read, and if you click the links you can read my reviews of those books.

I have a great discussion book to suggest: Tortilla Curtain by TC Boyle. It is excellent and so appropriate because of the hot topic..immigration.

I just realized that you had already attempted Three Cups of Tea, so maybe that was not a good suggestion :)
